“How do you stop small arguments from turning into big fights?”

In the basic relationship dynamics, it’s the smallest things that matter the most. The bigger milestones start from the tiniest details of your bond; the smallest effort and the basics. Without these small things, relationships fall apart.

Let me picture one simple thing that can lead to bigger issues for you. It’s when your partner refuses to think calmly before exchanging words in an argument. They start criticizing your flaws without contrasting what needs to be assessed in the situation. That’s an example of the most common mistakes that are normalized in relationships.

Moving forward, they might think responding rashly over trivial matters is normal. And the next thing they might do is say things that hurt your feelings and eventually ruin the relationship.

If you notice the smallest mistreatments right from the beginning, you can stop bigger issues from happening. This applies to both of your actions.

Never allow yourself to handle disagreements with anger. Don’t think that responding to anger with anger is normal.

I understand how inevitable rage can be in an argument. It explodes once triggered by certain words and actions. But giving each other a few seconds or minutes to think deeply and calmly contributes to your maturity. It’s all about self-control and discipline. If the other party refuses to calm down, be the bigger person. You know, it’s better to be the one adjusting than to ignite a really heated argument.
