Doubts and Issues
“What causes a lack of trust in a relationship?”
Trust is the foundation of a healthy relationship. Trust is believing in the integrity of your partner. It means that you are secure with your relationship and are able to be open and vulnerable to one another.
Without trust, a relationship cannot sustain itself.
So what causes a lack of trust in a relationship?
The most common cause of trust issues come from experiencing betrayal. Betrayal is one of the most painful things one could ever do to their partner.
Betrayal comes in many forms such as emotional cheating, breaking promises, hiding things from your partner, lying, and infidelity. It can develop negative traits in the betrayed such as insecurity and anxiety.
When you’ve experienced these in the past, you might find yourself questioning your partner’s motives and actions. You begin to doubt the things they say, and you find yourself assuming the worst most of the time.
After experiencing betrayal from someone you value the most, it can be hard for you to get back on track and trust again. You may even refuse to get emotionally involved as you lose faith in love and question if it still exists.
