Greatest love and being in love are two different things. For one, the former is the love that you give/receive, while the latter is the act of giving/receiving that love.

When you’re in love, you give the object thereof your thoughts, love, care, and best wishes. You share an emotional connection, whether you are dating or not.

You see your future with that person, and you’d like them to accompany you on all of your life’s journeys. It might not, however, feel as thrilling, intense, or passionate as the greatest love. There is an ownership of feelings towards one another when two people are in love.

On the other hand, the greatest love is considered the highest form. It is a love devoid of reservations or terms. Unconditional. It involves a lot of work and sacrifices. This form of love is not only romantic in nature, but can also be in familial and platonic love.
